NFC Tags: The Secret Weapon for Simplifying Your Daily Routine

Hi everyone! In this blog post, I'm going to share with you how I would use NFC tags in my ideal house to automate some of my daily tasks and make my life easier. 

NFC stands for Near Field Communication, and it's a technology that allows you to communicate with other devices by just tapping your phone or a tag. You can buy NFC tags online or in some stores, and they are very cheap and easy to use. You just need an app on your phone that can write and read NFC tags, and then you can program them to do whatever you want. 

It can be used for various purposes in your home, such as:

  - Smart locks: You can use your smartphone or a NFC tag to unlock your door, without the need for keys or codes.

  - Smart appliances: You can use it to control your smart devices, such as turning on the lights, adjusting the thermostat, or starting the coffee maker.

  - Smart payments: You can use NFC to make secure and contactless payments with your smartphone or a NFC-enabled card, without the need for cash or PINs.

  - Smart entertainment: You can use it to stream music, videos, or games from your smartphone to your smart TV, speaker, or console, without the need for cables or remote controls.

NFC is a convenient and versatile technology that can make your life easier and more fun!

Here are some examples of how an ideal house would work with just a few NFC tags:

Family Room:

- I have a tag on my coffee table that wakes up my PC in the study with a magic packet. This way, I don't have to go to the study and turn on the computer manually.

- The tag also asks me what I want to do next, using Google Assistant or Siri. I can say "watch the news", "play a game", or "music".

- If I say "watch the news", the tag switches on my TV and tunes in to a channel that has some news stuff. I like to stay informed about what's going on in the world, and this is a quick way to do it.

- If I say "play a game", the tag makes my PC use headphones for sound and launches Steam. Gaming is one of my hobbies, and I enjoy playing on my PC with a big screen and a comfortable couch.

- If I say music, the tag makes my PC use speakers for sound and plays a playlist that I like. Sometimes, I just want to relax and listen to some tunes, and this is how I do it.

Bedroom:

- I have another tag on my nightstand that snoozes my phone so I don't get any texts, but lets them know I'm sleeping. They can text "URGENT" to wake me up if it's an emergency. This way, I can sleep peacefully without being disturbed by notifications, but still be reachable in case of emergencies.

- The tag also puts the computer and the TV to sleep. This saves energy and prevents any noise or light from bothering me while I sleep.

- The tag also sets my alarm for the next morning if it's a workday. I have different alarms depending on the day of the week and what time I need to get up. The tag knows my schedule and sets the alarm accordingly.

Kitchen:

  - I have a tag on my fridge that turns on the coffee maker and the toaster when you tap your phone in the morning. This saves me some time and hassle in the morning, as I don't have to wait for the coffee or the toast to be ready.

  - The tag also reads out the weather forecast and your calendar events for the day. This helps me plan ahead and dress appropriately for the weather. It also reminds me of any appointments or tasks that I have for the day.

  - The tag also plays your favorite podcast or radio station while you prepare breakfast. This keeps me entertained and informed while I eat. I like to listen to different podcasts or radio stations depending on my mood or interest.

Bathroom:

  - I have a tag on my shower that turns on the shower and adjusts the temperature to your preference. This is very convenient and comfortable, as I don't have to fiddle with the knobs or wait for the water to heat up.

  - The tag also plays relaxing music or ambient sounds to help you unwind. This creates a soothing atmosphere and helps me relax after a long day. Sometimes, I like to listen to classical music, other times, I prefer nature sounds.

  - The tag also sets a timer for your skincare routine or brushing your teeth. This helps me keep track of how long I spend on each step and ensures that I don't skip any. It also reminds me to rinse off any products or spit out any toothpaste.

Garage:

  - I have a tag on my car that opens the garage door and starts your car when you are ready to leave. This is very handy and saves me some time, as I don't have to use a remote control or a key to do these things.

  - The tag also sends a text message to your family or friends that you are on your way. This lets them know that I'm leaving and when they can expect me to arrive. It also helps them keep track of where I am in case something happens.

  - The tag also plays your driving playlist or navigation app through the car speakers. This makes driving more enjoyable and safer, as I don't have to look at my phone or touch it while driving. I can listen to music that suits my mood or get directions from Google Maps or Waze.

NFC can also be used for various business purposes, such as:

  - Contactless payments: Customers can pay with their smartphones or smartwatches by tapping them on a NFC-enabled terminal.

  - Smart posters: Businesses can embed NFC tags in posters, flyers, or signs that can trigger actions on customers' devices, such as opening a website, downloading an app, or displaying a coupon.

  - Inventory management: Businesses can use NFC tags to track and manage their inventory, such as checking the availability, location, and condition of products.

  - Access control: Businesses can use NFC tags to grant or restrict access to certain areas or facilities, such as offices, warehouses, or parking lots.

  - Customer loyalty: Businesses can use NFC tags to reward customers for their loyalty, such as offering discounts, freebies, or points.

As you can see, NFC tags are very useful and fun to use. They can make your life easier and more enjoyable by automating some of your daily tasks and adding some personalization and interactivity to your home.
