How to Read Tech Content Like a Pro: A Guide for Kindle, Readwise, Instapaper, Airr, Notion and Roam Users
If you are an avid reader of tech-related content, you might be wondering how to make the most of your reading experience. How can you capture the insights and ideas that you encounter in books, articles, and podcasts? How can you organize and review them later for your personal or professional growth? In this blog post, I will share with you some tools and tips that I use to enhance my reading tech journey.First of all, I use Kindle as my main device for reading books. Kindle has a great feature that allows you to highlight any text that you find interesting or useful. You can also add notes and bookmarks to your highlights. But what if you want to access your highlights outside of your Kindle? That's where Readwise comes in.
Readwise is a service that automatically syncs your Kindle highlights to your email, Evernote, or other apps. You can also import highlights from other sources, such as PDFs, web pages, or Twitter. Readwise helps you review your highlights by sending you a daily email with a random selection of them. You can also browse and search your highlights on the Readwise website or app. Readwise also has a feature called Readwise Books, which gives you summaries and insights from the books you read.
Another tool that I use for reading tech articles is Instapaper. Instapaper is a bookmarking service that lets you save web pages for later reading. You can also highlight and annotate the articles that you save. Instapaper has a clean and minimalist interface that makes reading more enjoyable and distraction-free. You can also sync your Instapaper articles to your Kindle, so you can read them offline.
For listening to tech podcasts, I use Airr - Airaudio. Airr is a podcast player that lets you highlight audio clips from any podcast episode. You can also add notes and share your highlights with others. Airr integrates with Readwise, so you can sync your audio highlights to your Readwise account. Airr also has a feature called AirrQuotes, which transcribes your audio highlights into text.
Finally, I use Notion and Roam as my note-taking apps. Notion is an all-in-one workspace that lets you create and organize any type of content, such as notes, tasks, databases, wikis, and more. Roam is a networked note-taking app that lets you create bi-directional links between your notes, forming a web of knowledge. Both Notion and Roam have integrations with Readwise, so you can import your highlights from Kindle, Instapaper, and Airr into your notes. You can also add your own thoughts and connections to your highlights, creating a rich and personalized learning system.
These are some of the tools and tips that I use to improve my reading tech experience. I hope you find them useful and inspiring. Happy reading!
